Notes from the Underclass (2017):
Notes from the Underclass is a 12 Part spoken-word and exploratory, sound performance performed, composed and created by James Hazel - including a composition by composer V. Pham and improvisational contributions/sound-scapes from S. Monk.
This work explores the interplay between class and identity, and the lived experiences of working/underclass people and their their relationships to poetry and/or song lyrics - including recorded interviews of working/underclass/low-SES voices. First performed at Sydney Fringe Festival's, NIDA Emerging Artist Hub, this work will continue to develop and be performed in future. This work was included in FBI Radio's 'Top Ten Picks' for Sydney Fringe and James Hazel was subsequently awarded the Sydney Fringe Festival's (NIDA Sponsored) Emerging Artist Award for this production.
